Impact Soundworks released Ventus Shakuhachi

Impact Soundworks has launched a new virtual instrument series – Ventus Ethnic Winds – starting with the Japanese Shakuhachi, now available for Kontakt. The goal of Ventus is to provide extremely comprehensive sampling of non-Western solo woodwinds, capturing a wide range of playable techniques, ornaments, and phrases. Each library will have a common interface and features, making it easy for composers & producers to learn.

For this library and upcoming Ventus installments, Impact Soundworks created several powerful new systems intended to make it easy for composers to get authentic performances and customize the instrument to their liking. The first is the ornaments playback engine, which adds special attack and release playing techniques while the instrument is being played: no extra sequencing required. These ornaments can then be recorded, played back, or edited later.

The other innovation is the new Total Articulation Control Technology. Impact Soundworks created this to both simplify and unify the process of setting up mapping and triggering for virtual instruments. Using this, it’s possible to create just about any mapping scheme possible, from velocity and keyswitches to MIDI CCs, pedal position, key range, etc. Multiple mapping types can be combined and each articulation can be tweaked for dynamic control as well. Lastly, an ‘automap’ feature makes it incredibly simple to set up mapping schemes for an entire library with just a couple clicks.

The Shakuhachi, available for $99 as a digital download, is the most deeply-sampled instrument of its kind ever released.
